Initially the back hearth was raised up to house a dog basket fire, but as we all know dog basker fires are 15% efficient! We lowered the back hearth trying carefully to save the tiles and stuck them back down level with the front hearth. The recess was extremely narrow so we had to use an adjustable joint to bring the fit the log burner in (plus it needed an adequate air gap behind the stove).
